Egencia based its rankings on data recorded on flight bookings and reservation trends from small, mid-cap and multinational companies in over 60 countries from 1 January 2014 to 1 December 2018.

This is the fourth consecutive year that New York has topped the list, and the city’s popularity is expected to continue with the number corporate flight bookings to New York almost 10% higher than second-place London in 2018 alone. Meanwhile, Paris came in third place having experienced a 20% increase in air travel from 2016 to 2018.

In addition, the total number of business flight bookings across the globe rose by almost 110% from 1 January 2014 to 1 December 2018. Singapore saw the biggest growth, with a nearly 160% increase over the five years. Meanwhile, although Europe represented two of the top three business destinations, Asia dominated the overall top 20 list, with a total of Asian six cities in the rankings.

Andrew Dyer, Vice President of Global Supply at Egencia brand, noted that “while US and European cities retain the top three spots, the most interesting takeaway is how global business travel has truly become with five of seven continents represented in the top 20 destinations”. He added that “as business travel continues to grow, it’s never been more important for companies to have a traveler-friendly program that also provides unified global tools for travel managers to assist their travelers”.
